Gustavo Velasquez

Gustavo Velasquez is a finance professional who most recently worked for Goldman Sachs as an Executive Director/Vice President in the firm’s Investment Banking Division. As the Head of Americas Client Onboarding, he managed various teams, including onboarding and client implementation teams in multiple offices. In a short period of time, he grew his team from 2 to more than 35 individuals and was responsible for their recruitment, training, and performance. His team was responsible for partnering with all investment bankers in North, Central, and South America; as well as liaising with their clients to conduct due-diligence and oversee seamless execution of financing transactions and advisory products. He oversaw investment banking’s client onboarding lifecycle and was responsible for working with external and internal teams to streamline front-to-back processes for a best-in-class client experience.

Gustavo was part of Goldman Sachs’ most sensitive and notable transactions for technology and Fortune 500 companies. He maintained relationships with some of the largest sponsors worldwide to facilitate equity trades and IPOs. While at the firm, Gustavo was responsible for providing America’s (including LATAM) onboarding coverage for roughly 3,000 banking transactions a year, ensuring compliance with AML/KYC standards, regulatory laws, and regional policies. He served on several committees and was an ambassador of the firm to local universities and recruited for the firm’s diversity initiatives in universities across the US. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Gustavo briefly worked for a Pritzker Group portfolio company.

Gustavo received a bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in entrepreneurship from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Business. While at Brigham Young University, he was awarded the Philip and Helen Snelgrove Entrepreneur Scholarship as well as other academic accolades. Upon graduating he received the prestigious Marriott School of Management Outstanding Student of the Year Award. He went on to complete a master’s degree in corporate finance at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

Currently, Gustavo holds a real estate license and enjoys working with startups as well as consulting companies on strategy and funding efforts. During 2022 he served on University of Houston's Bauer College of Business Advisory Panel. He’s a board member of Ellovate, Inc., a non-profit which provides resources to individuals challenged by mental health conditions. Gustavo is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
